Encore Fou is a classic screamo band from Turin/Aosta, Italy.
Remarks:
Recorded, mixed and mastered in May/ June/ September 2000. Track 1 does not appear in the tracklist, it's a movie sample taken from La casa dalle finestre che ridono / The house with laughing windows (Pupi Avati - 1976).
Before Raein and La Quiete defined the sound of 'Italian Screamo', Italy had bands like Encore Fou. Encore Fou was centred between Turin and Aosta, both cities with an incredibly productive hardcore scene since the early 80s (bands such as Nerorgasmo, Negazione, Blue Vomit, to name a few).
The members of Encore Fou also played on a variety of solid bands like Molto Rumore Per Nulla, Cornucopia, I Fichissimi and Rudimenti. A perfect mix between Bremen-style Hardcore and 2000s Screamo, for fans of the Carol, Union of Uranus, and One Eyed God Prophecy -school of Screamo.
Encore Fou's Il Numero Undici is a seminal work in the Italian hardcore scene, originally released in December 2000 and reissued in 2022 by Shove Records. This album encapsulates the raw energy and DIY ethos of late '90s Italian punk, blending elements of emo, crust, and powerviolence into a visceral 23-minute experience.
The album opens with an eerie sample from the 1976 film La Casa Dalle Finestre Che Ridono, setting a haunting tone before launching into a barrage of aggressive tracks. Songs like "Crocifisso in sala mensa" and "Cotidie Mori" showcase the band's intense instrumentation and emotionally charged vocals.
Critics have praised Il Numero Undici for its unfiltered expression and impactful sound. Rockit.it described it as "impetuous," highlighting the album's fusion of hardcore roots with grind influences, drawing comparisons to bands like His Hero Is Gone and Reversal of Man.
