Grind Your Mind is the long-awaited debut album from Perpetual, a grindcore band hailing from Sabah, Malaysia. Formed in 1995, Perpetual had previously released several rehearsal tapes, demos, and split recordings before unveiling this full-length album on November 25, 2013, through The Noise Productions. The album comprises 10 tracks of intense grindcore, characterized by blast beats, discordant riffs, and aggressive vocals, drawing inspiration from genre pioneers like Napalm Death and Brutal Truth.
Critics have praised Grind Your Mind for its raw energy and adherence to old-school grindcore aesthetics. The album's sound is reminiscent of the late '80s and early '90s grindcore scene, with a production that captures the unpolished and visceral essence of the genre. Tracks like "The Downfall of Humankind" and "Disversus Suspicio" showcase the band's ability to blend mid-tempo grooves with relentless grind sections, creating a dynamic and engaging listening experience.
The album opens with an intro featuring a news excerpt about the 2013 Lahad Datu standoff, grounding the music in real-world events and setting a politically charged tone. This thematic choice reflects the band's commitment to addressing social and political issues through their music.
Grind Your Mind is available in multiple formats, including CD, cassette, and digital download. For fans of grindcore and extreme music, this album offers a compelling glimpse into Malaysia's underground metal scene and stands as a testament to Perpetual's enduring presence in the genre.
